Setting : Komaran Society : House Sone

Renowned for their decadence, the Sone are poets and artisans. Sone nobles are said to delight in shocking the sensibilities of their peers, and are highly prized at parties for their dangerous reputations.

The Sone are a family of contradictions. Despite being a very old family, they are very new to power, having only risen to prominence after Paraceln's Dream. They are considered the guardians of culture within Komaru, but are also infamous for their decadent and shocking behavior. Most nobles of other families handle the Sone like delicate artwork: a Sone in one's social circle is an indication of great sophistication, but the effort involved in keeping the Sone content is best left to another.

Artistic skill and scandalous behavior are the coin of choice within the Sone family, particularly in combination. The perfect Sone diva can demand the moons and have her beleaguered admirers fetch them before she sings another note. Many other families have commented that the family's behavior may simply be a complicated series of practical jokes, but the pleasure of being on the winning side of the jokes keeps most of the other families playing.

In court, the Sone have few real enemies. The Church of Inner Light regards them with disgust, but while its more vocal supporters in the Bellatrix echo its sentiments, the Bellatrix family as a whole does its best to ignore its scandalous neighbors. With the exception of the Minamet, the other families all secretly admire the Sone self-indulgence; the stodgy Minamet simply lack any real interest in playing the Sone's games. Merchants thrive within Sone lands, particularly when they ply an artistic trade and can obtain noble patronage. The Sone practice a laissez faire attitude towards their merchants and cities, further encouraging trade. Caught between the unscrupulous actions of the merchant class and the capricious whims of the Sone themselves, the peasantry are the only real source of discontent for the noble clan.

The Sone follow the normal conventions for naming their children, although the family's proclivities make it difficult to assume a traditional name indicates traditional values. As a result, Sone names are generally either Japanese or Latin French in origin, with some Italian influence. Sone colors are red, black, and violet.
