Komaru's Neighbors

Komaru is not the only nation on Mourn, but very little is known about its neighbors because of the geographic barriers surrounding the kingdom. The Shield of the North, a great mountain range, ends the Yuasa holdings on Komaru's northern border. The mountains are known to be populated by many independent and uncivilized tribes, each holding little more than a single valley. While the Yuasa rangers conduct some trade with the Shielders, on the whole the northern tribes have little to offer to Komaru.

To the east, the Minamet hold a region of low mountains and steppes, and from these lands produce the metal and horses used by their famous cavalry and engineers. Beyond the eastern steppes, the Minamet tell tales of a great desert, its sands scorched dry by the rising sun. Dusky-skinned nomads are said to inhabit this wasteland, but the savagery of these foreigners prevents any trade.

South of Komaru, the fertile plains held by the Sone, Bellatrix, and other minor families eventually give way to rocky, broken badlands. This region is known as the Plains of Crystal, named for the mile-wide swaths of flat glassy stone that dot its countryside. While Touraine historians speculate that the Plains of Crystal were once lush farmland, the land no longer supports any real agriculture. The people that live there are said to be twisted and alien, as though the very land warped their countenances.

Finally, to the west of Komaru there is only the lethal ocean, a barrier of black water that no man can cross.
